Learn how to be a smart lazy investor with the Smart Lazy Investor Group. When most people first get started learning real estate investing, it is with the dream of owning a lot of investment properties that produce passive monthly income so they never have to work a job again. While buying rental property may give an investor something to brag about down at their local pub and a feeling of importance being a Landlord, the true goal of real estate investing is the money the investment property produces. If rental property only cost money every month and didn?t put fatten the owner?s bank account every month, no one would be interested in real estate investing. So, let us begin at the beginning, and figure out how best to make money investing in real estate. Below are the top 3 real estate investing strategies in the world of "Investment How To" from: http://www.SmartLazyInvestor.com

Real Estate Wholesaling: SmartLazyInvestor.com/how-to-wholesale-properties
Putting a property under contract at a discount to the full retail value with the intent to sell that contract to another investor or end buyer without needing investment capital or credit, and making a few grand per transaction with little to no risk or liability.

Property Flipping: SmartLazyInvestor.com/how-to-flip-a-property
Using hard money, private money or your own money to purchase an investment property at a discount that is in needed of repairs, fixing the property up to a retail standard, and making a large chunk of cash when you sell.

Being a Landlord: SmartLazyInvestor.com/being-a-landlord
Buying investment property with the intent to rent it out for passive monthly income, a hedge against inflation, and potential appreciation.

The first and most important step to become successful as a smart lazy investor is investing in yourself. Every really successful real estate investor dedicates some of their most valuable investment capital, their time, to improving themselves by reading books, joining an investor group, attending seminars, and of course listening to audio books. Developing the right mentality will help a smart lazy investor to see more possibilities, and take advantage of opportunities most people pass by on a daily basis. If an investor is constantly afraid of failing, they will continue to focus on failing and continue to fail. Break the downward spiral! The Smart Lazy Investor Group highly recommend watching, reading and listening to; Anthony Robbins, Robert Kiyosaki, Donald Trump, Jim Rohn, Stephen Covey, Brian Tracy, Zig Ziglar, Les Brown, and any other positive personal development or business expert audios available. Members of the Smart Lazy Investor Group continue to listen to audio books every day while they work out, fly in a plane or drive in their cars. It is highly recommended everyone else do the same as well to develop the right mindset to be successful like the rest of the smart lazy investor group.

Buying A Car Is Easy With These Websites | PM Press

Buying a used car can be a stressful experience. ?Luckily the internet has revolutionized the auto buying process and made it more easier for consumers to conduct research and find the car of their dreams. Buying a used car can be a stressful experience. ?Luckily the internet has revolutionized the auto buying process and made it more easier for consumers to conduct research and find the car of their dreams. Let?s take a look at websites that can facilitate the car buying process.

Craigslist Is King
One of the easiest and most user-friendly ways to buy a used car is Craigslist. Personally I prefer using Craigslist to browsing the newspaper classifieds because the site allows advertisers to post very detailed information about their car which generally would not fit in a small newspaper ad. ?Most ads also contain numerous images. Ads on the site are placed by both private sellers and dealerships. The main advantage of using Craigslist to look for a car is that it is easy to browse local ads. They also have a very useful ?search? bar which makes it easy to search for the make and model of your choice.

Try Ebay For Rare Cars
Ebay is a great source for rare and collectible cars. You can find everything from classic cars to celebrity owned cars on the popular auction site. The disadvantage to buying from Ebay is that it may be difficult to test drive a vehicle prior to making a purchase. In addition you also need to keep in mind that you many need to pick up the vehicle or have it shipped to you which can add to the overall cost. The site also offers a Vehicle Purchase Protection program in order to protect buyers from fraud. Always look at the seller?s feedback score and be on the watch for any negative reviews.

Edmunds
Edmunds is a well-respected automotive site with lots of info about cars and the car buying process. They offer detailed car reviews on their site and all sorts of guides and interesting articles such as how to negotiate with a car sales person and which cars are good deals.

Carfax
Always run a Carfax report before making a purchase. The report will show the number of previous owners, odometer, if the car has been in an accident and if it has any flood or water damage.

Enterprise Car Sales
Enterprise Car Sales is a used car dealer that offers a no-haggle car buying experience. ?The company provides vehicle certification and a free Carfax Vehicle History Report. All vehicles have passed a 109 point inspection by an ACE certified technician. In addition, the site also offers a large selection of cars priced under $13,500.

Written by Jacqueline Starz ? Fiat Dealer Cincinnati Bob Ross Auto offers a large selection of used and pre-owned cars from Mercedes, Buick and GMC in OH.

Potentially dangerous new malaria mosquito identified

ScienceDaily (Sep. 28, 2012) ? University of Notre Dame entomologists are part of a team of researchers that recently discovered a potentially dangerous new malaria-transmitting mosquito. The as yet unnamed, and previously unreported, mosquito breeds in the western areas of Kenya and has an unknown DNA match to any of the existing malaria-transmitting species.

The Anopheles species of mosquitoes which transmits malaria in Africa is already widely studied by researchers. It prefers to rest indoors during the day and feed on humans during the night. Current malaria control programs, including spraying of insecticides and using insecticide-treated bed nets, are designed with these behaviors in mind.

Although the new species has never been implicated in the transmission of malaria, new discoveries in its biting habits pose a threat because it was found to be active outdoors and prefers to bite people earlier in the evening, soon after sunset, when people are not protected by current malaria control techniques.

Neil Lobo, a Notre Dame research associate professor and Brandy St. Laurent, a former Notre Dame doctoral student, joined forces on the team of researchers that made the discovery. y Frank Collins, Notre Dame's George and Winifred Clark Professor of Biology, Collins was principal investigator of the Malaria Transmission Consortium effort funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The discovery was announced in a paper whose lead author was Jennifer Stevenson of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

How To Spend A Great Family Spring Break

Majority of the kids easily gets bored during spring breaks because they have to stay at the house and play with their usual toys or do redundant home activities. But with a cool game plan, you and family?s spring break can be one that they would definitely look forward to do again next year.

INTRODUCE A NEW ACTIVITY
Often times, kids get bored doing the same usual routines or activities as it becomes too redundant for their taste. For this, initiate a new activity or a new hobby to them that will help break out the redundancy. You can introduce cooking pastries, camping, hiking, scrapbooking, and many more.

PARTICIPATE IN A VOLUNTEER PROJECT
Have a meeting with the rest of the family and plan on having a volunteer work or project. For example, you can go to an animal shelter with your kids and let them get exposed on how to take care of sheltered animals. You can also hold a gardening activity and redecorate your garden with the help of the family. The key thing to remember is to involve all the family members as much as possible with the planning and execution of the proposed activity.

TAKE YOUR FAMILY FOR A LOCAL SIGHT-SEEING
Create a list of great local destinations that you and your family can go during the spring break. Ask each of your family members to contribute their destination ideas and let everyone vote on where all of you should go first. Take loads of pictures during the trip and put it in a scrapbook. Your kids will definitely appreciate it and will be begging you to hold more of those activities on the next vacation break.

Researchers find risk markers for erectile dysfunction following radiation in prostate cancer

Researchers find risk markers for erectile dysfunction following radiation in prostate cancer

Thursday, September 27, 2012

In the first study of its kind, a research team led by Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University discovered 12 genetic markers associated with the development of erectile dysfunction (ED) in prostate cancer patients who were treated with radiation. The findings, published in the International Journal of Radiation Oncology? Biology? Physics, are an important step towards helping clinicians determine the best course of treatment for prostate cancer patients and may lead to the development of therapies that alleviate side effects.

The main treatments for prostate cancer ? surgery, brachytherapy (seed implants) and external beam radiation therapy ? are all very effective at curing prostate cancer. Unfortunately, each treatment places patients at risk for ED. According to the National Cancer Institute, the prevalence of erectile dysfunction following external beam radiation for prostate cancer ranges from 65 percent to 85 percent. The Prostate Cancer Foundation estimates prevalence of ED following seed therapy at 25 to 50 percent. Many men will be able to regain their potency with time and treatments, but doctors would like to identify which men may be more likely to develop this side effect.

In the first large scale Genome-Wide Association Study to identify single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with susceptibility for the development of erectile dysfunction following radiotherapy for prostate cancer, researchers conducted a two-part study, first, to discover the candidate genetic markers of side effect risk, and second, to confirm which of those markers are replicated in a second group of patients. In the first group of prostate cancer patients, which included 132 men who developed erectile dysfunction after radiotherapy and 103 men similarly treated who did not develop erectile dysfunction, they found a set of genetic markers associated with erectile dysfunction. In the second part of the study, which examined 128 patients who developed erectile dysfunction after radiotherapy and 102 who did not, researchers confirmed that 12 SNPs were associated with erectile dysfunction.

"Thankfully, current treatments for prostate cancer offer excellent rates of long-term survival, so patients and their physicians have a choice about which treatment path to take," said Barry Rosenstein, PhD, Professor of Radiation Oncology, Mount Sinai School of Medicine. "However, the risk of developing erectile dysfunction after radiation treatment is highly variable, suggesting there may be a genetic component to determining that risk. Our study confirms that specific markers make certain patients more susceptible to this side effect."

Patients in the study cohort were given one of three treatments: internal radiotherapy, known as brachytherapy; brachytherapy plus external beam radiation; or external beam radiation alone. They were followed for an average length of nearly four years to determine level of sexual function after treatment.

Interestingly, the 12 SNPs identified in this study were located near genes that seem to be related to erectile function rather than related to radiation response. The researchers conclude that these SNPs may affect genes that sensitize a patient to developing erectile dysfunction when exposed to radiation during therapy.

"Prostate cancer screening and treatment are undergoing major shifts," said Harry Ostrer, MD, Professor of Pathology and Genetics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Director of Genetic and Genomic Testing at Montefiore Medical Center and co-principal investigator of the study. "This is part of our ongoing effort to identify men at highest risk for disease, identify the aggressive tumors that would be responsive to therapy, and to improve quality of life for men with indolent prostate cancers who might benefit from active surveillance, rather than therapy."

The authors indicate that examination of a large, independent cohort of similarly treated patients will be necessary to definitively determine which SNPs to include as part of a clinically useful predictive test to identify which men are at greatest risk for developing erectile dysfunction following prostate cancer radiotherapy. The researchers are also evaluating the impact of radiation treatment on urinary complications and proctitis, the inflammation of the rectum.

NHL, union to resume talks Friday in New York

TORONTO (AP) ? The NHL and its players' union are to resume bargaining Friday for the first time since the lockout began, although the talks will concentrate on secondary economic issues.

Deputy commissioner Bill Daly and NHL Players' Association special counsel Steve Fehr met Tuesday in Toronto and set up the session, which will be in New York. These will be the first formal negotiations since Sept. 12, when the players and owners exchanged proposals.

The lockout started Sept. 16, when training camps were to open. This is the third lockout since Gary Bettman became commissioner in 1993. The last lockout wiped out the 2004-05 season and ended when players accepted a salary cap.

With the league and union far apart on money, both sides decided to discuss other economic issues that also are necessary for an agreement. Fehr said the topics will include pension and medical plans, schedule rules, drug testing and the grievance procedure.

Top officials from the NHL and NHLPA met Monday to review last season's economics and complete escrow payments due players. The labor contract was not discussed.

"Obviously, we've got to talk before you can get a deal, so I think it's important to get the talks going again," Daly said Monday. "But you also have to have something to say. I think it's fair to say we feel like we need to hear from the players' association in a meaningful way because I don't think that they've really moved off their initial proposal, which was made more than a month ago now."

The St. Louis Blues laid off what is believed to just under 20 front-office workers, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Tuesday. The Florida Panthers and Ottawa Senators already have had layoffs. Other teams have said they could do so depending on how long the lockout lasts.

It took three months for the NHL and NHLPA to resume bargaining after the lockout began in 2004. Since this lockout started a handful of players have expressed concern that it could last the entire season. Detroit Red Wings forward Danny Cleary said Monday he was "just trying to be realistic."

The NHL has $3.3 billion in annual revenue. The league wants to reduce the players' share of hockey related revenue from 57 percent to a range between 49 percent and 47 percent, up from 43 percent in its original proposal. Players think management's alleged financial problems could be addressed by re-examining the teams' revenue-sharing formula.

Is equity release a gamble worth taking? | Which? Conversation

More grandparents are using equity release to help their family. Yet, is it really that sensible to release money from your home when it can be such an important safety net?

Stories of young people borrowing from ?the bank of mum and dad? aren?t new. But a report by equity release specialist Key Retirement Solutions has highlighted a new trend: young people borrowing from their grandparents, who have released equity in their homes to do so.

Home sweet home

Equity release is a way of freeing up the money in your home without having to move.

Last year, 23% of retired homeowners who took out an equity release plan said lending to their loved ones was their motivation. And in the first six months of this year that rose to 31%. Total lending also increased from ?385.7m to ?446.2m.

Before the recession, the most common reason retired homeowners gave for using equity release was renovating their property, followed by going on holiday. Although home improvements remain the most popular reason (58%), now more homeowners are citing grandchildren?s university fees or helping their children get on the housing ladder.

Does equity release add up?

For many UK retirees, their home is their largest asset ? so making practical use of it makes good financial sense. But it?s worth ensuring that your own financial future is secure before lending a slice of it to your family.

Even those who feel they have a comfortable pension may still find themselves needing to pay for care bills in later life ? which can run to ?50k a year and beyond.

For those who regard their home as a financial backstop, it may make better financial sense to gift it on to their children once they die, rather than removing the safety net before knowing whether they?ll need it.

Given the high charges, high interest rates and inflexible nature of most of the products on the market, equity release is best kept as a last resort. Is it one you?d take advantage of?

You don?t need a weatherman to know Mitt Romney?s losing in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio--With a huge debt clock standing to his left, Mitt Romney spoke for 20 minutes and $36 million during a morning rally Wednesday at a high school in suburban Westerville. But Romney?s audience of maybe 750 Republican faithful, who patiently lined up in a light mist to go through a Secret Service security check, were nothing more than a flag-waving, sign-holding, cheering-on-cue television studio audience.

More than two hours after Romney got back on his campaign bus, NBC4 reporter Robyn Haines stood among the cleaning crew sweeping up the Westerville South High School gym to deliver her live report for the noon news on WCMH-TV here. Haines began her report on the speech with a reference to Romney?s suddenly ominous Ohio poll numbers: ?This was the first stop as he continues his bus tour throughout Ohio trying to close that gap ? now 10 points getting between him and President Obama here in the state of Ohio ? making events like these even more important.?

Aside from a fleeting reference to gay rights hecklers, the rest of her fluffy two-minute report was almost entirely positive (?Romney spoke to a packed house, hundreds stood in line to hear his plans for a stronger middle class, his plans to fix our economy?). NBC4 then tagged on a brief and banal extract from an exclusive interview that Romney gave to political reporter Ted Hart: ?I?m someone who believes passionately in the future of America and taking America on a different course than this president.?

This is the reality of the 2012 campaign: substance ends up on the cutting room floor. Voters consider local TV news a prime information source for the presidential campaign. But watching newscasts on three different channels in Ohio?s largest media market during the past 24 hours underscored how difficult it is for Romney to make himself heard amidst the clutter and the clatter of Columbus television.

Even though Westerville is fewer than 15 miles from downtown Columbus, the Romney rally was just the second story on the noon NBC4 news. The news lead was a breathless second-day update on the ?likely? apprehension of a non-violent sexual voyeur known as the ?Hilltop Creeper.? Columbus television, in fact, is obsessed with sexual predators. The 5 p.m. news on WBNS-10 (CBS) featured three separate stories on three unrelated incidents during the first 10 minutes of Tuesday?s broadcast.

Small wonder that political strategists (and, yes, campaign reporters) have an over-sized faith in the potency of negative TV spots. But watching them on Columbus television the way that ordinary Ohio voters do makes them seem like a cacophonous distraction, an invitation to raid the refrigerator or post a cute cat video on Facebook. During the final segment of Tuesday?s 11 p.m. news on ABC6 (WSYX), 13 campaign commercials were broadcast.

Republican Super PACs like Karl Rove?s American Crossroads (?Obama treats us like we?re his enemy?) and Democratic cause groups like the political arm of the Planned Parenthood (?Mitt Romney would turn back the clock for women?) were out there with shrill claims. But so were local candidates for state representative and Franklin County recorder. My favorite ad was a 15-second spot by incumbent recorder Daphne Hawk who promises to be ?watching over your taxpayer dollar--like a hawk.?

It is hard to keep anything straight through this blur. During the commercial segment leading into the 11 p.m. news on ABC6, viewers first saw an Obama ad ridiculing a Romney get-tough-with-China spot. It was immediately followed by a version of the original Romney commercial (?It doesn?t have to be this way, if Obama would stand up to China?). Watching this discordant sequence, you almost wanted to get the TV station to show the commercials in proper order.

Sometimes the adjoining non-political commercials provided an ironic commentary on the presidential race. During the noon Wednesday news on NBC4, a Romney ad was immediately followed by a spot ballyhooing Positive Changes Hypnosis Centers. During the same broadcast, an Obama ad flowed into a we-feel-your-pain commercial for accident attorneys whom ?you can trust.?

But in a state with more than 800,000 jobs tied to the auto industry, it is also the car commercials that pose a continuing challenge to Romney. Without ever mentioning Obama or the auto bailout, the continuing message on Columbus television is that American-made cars are back. ?Lease the Ohio-built Cruze,? is the message in one Chevy ad and a few minutes later a frenetic Honda pitchman asks, ?Why get the 2012 model when you can have the 2013 Accord -- fresh out of the Ohio plant -- for $189 a month??

All this is, of course, impressionistic rather than conclusive. For all the obsession with winning the 24-hour news cycle, the presidential election is not won or lost within a single day. But it does seem telling that Mitt Romney came to the Columbus suburbs on Tuesday morning ? and the frame for the story on local TV news was that the Republican nominee is losing by a 10-point margin in the polls.

With early voting starting next week in Ohio, cutting through the clutter becomes a necessity for Romney. But it is hard for the GOP nominee to be clearly heard by the voters when he is sharing TV time with local candidates like Daphne Hawk and car dealers all but proclaiming, ?Happy days are here again.?

One of the biggest problems with batteries is the weight and bulky nature of their packaging. It is the major limiting factors for electric vehicles. Several years ago, to overcome this problem, scientists started researching ultra-thin batteries which would be able to hold the same charge but in a much smaller space. In 2009 researchers from the University of Stanford announced that they had created a battery out of a single piece of plain copier paper by using carbon nanotubes to store energy and generate electricity.

The announcement of such a thin battery led some to predict that one day someone would invent printable battery technology.?(More from Oilprice.com:?Japan Steps Away from Nuclear Power)

That day has arrived.

A team at Rice University has made a battery from paint. They created a lithium ion battery which they are able to paint onto virtually any surface.
In tests they combined the battery with a small solar cell and found that the system worked as a perfect energy generating unit. In one test the batteries were even able to power light-emitting diodes that spelled out "RICE" for six hours, with a steady 2.4 volts.?(More from Oilprice.com:?Ignore the Political Optimism, the Planet is in Trouble)

Neelam Singh, the team leader, said that she can already imagine integrating paintable battery technology withpaintable solar cells.

They have already filed for a patent, and are now looking to use the technology to create batteries that can be connected together like LEGO and attached to anything.

Oscillating microscopic beads could be key to biolab on a chip

ScienceDaily (Sep. 25, 2012) ? If you throw a ball underwater, you'll find that the smaller it is, the faster it moves: A larger cross-section greatly increases the water's resistance. Now, a team of MIT researchers has figured out a way to use this basic principle, on a microscopic scale, to carry out biomedical tests that could eventually lead to fast, compact and versatile medical-testing devices.

The results, based on work by graduate student Elizabeth Rapoport and assistant professor Geoffrey Beach, of MIT's Department of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE), are described in a paper published in the journal Lab on a Chip. MIT graduate student Daniel Montana '11 also contributed to the research as an undergraduate.

The balls used here are microscopic magnetic beads that can be "decorated" with biomolecules such as antibodies that cause them to bind to specific proteins or cells; such beads are widely used in biomedical research. The key to this new work was finding a way to capture individual beads and set them oscillating by applying a variable magnetic field. The rate of their oscillation can then be measured to assess the size of the beads.

When these beads are placed in a biological sample, biomolecules attach to their surfaces, making the beads larger -- a change that can then be detected through the biomolecules effect on the beads' oscillation. This would provide a way to detect exactly how much of a target biomolecule is present in a sample, and provide a way to give a virtually instantaneous electronic readout of that information.

This new technique, for the first time, allows these beads -- each about one micrometer, or millionth of a meter, in diameter -- to be used for precise measurements of tiny quantities of materials. This could, for example, lead to tests for disease agents that would need just a tiny droplet of blood and could deliver results instantly, instead of requiring laboratory analysis.

In a paper published earlier this year in the journal Applied Physics Letters, the same MIT researchers described their development of a technique for creating magnetic tracks on a microchip surface, and rapidly transporting beads along those tracks. (The technology required is similar to that used to read and write magnetic data on a computer's hard disk.) An operational device using this new approach would consist of a small reservoir above the tracks, where the liquid containing the magnetic beads and the biological sample would be placed.

Rather than pumping the fluid and the particles through channels, as in today's microfluidic devices, the particles would be controlled entirely through changes in applied magnetic fields. By controlling the directions of magnetic fields in closely spaced adjacent regions, the researchers create tiny areas with extremely strong magnetic fields, called magnetic domain walls, whose position can be shifted along the track. "We can use the magnetic domain walls to capture and transport the beads along the tracks," Beach says.

In the researchers' most recent paper, Rapoport explains, they have now shown that once a bead is captured, a magnetic field can be used to shake it back and forth. Then, the researchers measure how fast the bead moves as they change the frequency of the oscillation. "The resonant frequency is a function of the bead size," she says -- and could be used to reveal whether the bead has grown in size through attachment to a target biomolecule.

Besides being potentially quicker and requiring a far smaller biological sample to produce a result, such a device would be more flexible than existing chip-based biomedical tests, the researchers say. While most such devices are specifically designed to detect one particular kind of protein or disease agent, this new device could be used for a wide variety of different tests, simply by inserting a fresh batch of fluid containing beads coated with the appropriate reactant. After the test, the material could be flushed out, and the same chip used for a completely different test by inserting a different type of magnetic beads. "You'd just use it, wash it off, and use it again," Rapoport says.

There are dozens of types of magnetic beads commercially available now, which can be coated to react with many different biological materials, Beach explains, so such a test device could have enormous flexibility.

The MIT team has not yet used the system to detect biological molecules. Rather, they used magnetic beads of different sizes to demonstrate that their system is capable of detecting size differences corresponding to those between particles that are bound to biological molecules and those that are not. Having succeeded in this proof of concept, the researchers' next step will be to repeat the experiment using biological samples.

"We now have all the elements required to make a sensing device," Beach says. The next step is to combine the pieces in an operational device and demonstrate its performance.

R. Sooryakumar, a professor of physics at Ohio State University who was not involved in this research, calls this an "innovative approach."

"It is very interesting how the researchers combine technologies that are well understood for applications in computing and data storage, and apply them to something completely different," Sooryakumar says. He adds, "These magnetic devices are potentially valuable tools that could go well beyond how one may normally expect them to be used. The ramifications, for example in food safety and health care, such as pathogen or cancer detection, are indeed exciting."

The research was partly funded by MIT's Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation, and the test devices were made at the MIT NanoStructures Laboratory.

Former Russia defense chief Grachev dies

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Former Russian Defense Minister Pavel Grachev, who said Chechen rebels could be crushed in a few hours with a single airborne regiment - ahead of a devastating 20-month war - died on Sunday aged 64.

The general was defense minister under President Boris Yeltsin in 1992-1996 and was one of the decision-makers behind the first war Moscow launched, in December 1994, to defeat separatist forces.

Tens of thousands of people, many of them civilians, were killed before the signing of an August 1996 treaty that called for the withdrawal of federal forces and left the region in the hands of separatist leaders.

Grachev died at the Vishnyevsky military hospital outside Moscow.

Federal forces returned to Chechnya in 1999, beginning another devastating war that helped propel Vladimir Putin to Russia's presidency and restored Russian rule over the region but also fuelled an Islamist insurgency that persists today.

Grachev was dogged by accusations of involvement in corruption linked to the Soviet withdrawal from East Germany.

A journalist who had linked Grachev to corruption in the military, Dmitry Kholodov, was killed by an exploding briefcase in 1994, and his newspaper pointed the finger at Grachev.

Grachev was not charged in connection with Kholodov's killing, but when testifying as a witness he acknowledged using harsh words about the journalist when speaking to subordinates.

It is one of the many killings of Russian government critics that remain unsolved years later.

Muslim protesters rally in Athens over anti-Islam video

ATHENS (Reuters) - Hundreds of Muslim protesters staged a rally in central Athens on Sunday to protest against a film made in California which mocks Islam's Prophet Mohammad, the first such demonstration in Greece.

The protesters chanted "All we have is Mohammad" and held banners reading "We demand an immediate punishment for those who tried to mock our Prophet Mohammad" as they prepared to march to the U.S. embassy.

There were brief moments of tension when some demonstrators hurled bottles at police, who responded with teargas.

Police shut down a subway station and were considering blocking the march before it reached the heavily guarded embassy to prevent possible violence, police officials said. Greece is home to hundreds of thousands of Muslims.

The anti-Islam film, posted on YouTube, has provoked protests in several Muslim countries. Related violence has included the storming of U.S. and other Western embassies, the killing of the U.S. ambassador to Libya and a suicide bombing in Afghanistan.

Many Muslims regard any depiction of the Prophet Mohammad as blasphemous, let alone one which denigrates the Prophet.

French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo stoked the furor last week when it published cartoons featuring a naked Mohammad, and on Friday France banned street protests against the drawings.

Iranian students gathered at the French embassy in Tehran on Sunday to protest against the publication of the cartoons, Iran's Fars news agency reported.

They held placards reading "The silence of Muslims is a betrayal of the Koran" and "Shi'ite brothers, Sunni brothers, unity, unity", and chanted "Death to America" and "Death to Israel", Fars said.

Now that your home renovations have been completed with a new contemporary look, you may find yourself realizing that filling the empty room can be exciting, but challenging. One direction you could take your interior design is a creative one, where you bring in old pieces to combine with the new appearance. This will create a warm, inviting atmosphere.

Renovation Design

Mixing old antiques with a new renovation is a great way to add interest and history to a home.

Old pieces of furniture often have decades of family history and even a story to go with them. ?They can reflect your personal style. The sheen of a newly painted wall or carefully designed stylish tile floor in your home renovations can be softened by the warm colorful look of antiques. Flea markets, yard sales or the local antique stores are great places to add pieces to your venue. Architectural salvage warehouses may also provide opportunity for interestingly older styled doors, shelving material, and other architectural items.

One caution to keep in mind however, is to not blanket the room with antiques. This will give a cluttered look. A few, well-placed pieces can add a soft touch that enhances the overall ambiance. For an even more creative approach, consider a mixture of old and new furniture and wall decorations that blend tactfully to suit your personal preferences.

Essentially, using old furniture and decorative pieces together can provide the final touches to complete your home renovations. For professional advice and much more information about home renovations, simply visit the NARI Atlanta website. If you don?t have plans for next weekend, you may also be interested in checking out the NARI Tour of Remodeled Homes ? where you?ll see this kind of inspiration first hand!

CNN Claims ?Jihad? Means ?Self Improvement?

Per the BBC World Service (http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/islam/beliefs/jihad_1.shtml), jihad is an Arabic noun meaning ?struggle.? There are three forms of jihad:
1. A believer?s internal struggle to live out the Muslim faith as well as possible

3. Holy war: the struggle to defend Islam, with force if necessary
Holy war is absolutely part of the definition of jihad, but it is not the entirety of it. So Erin Burnett?s statement is at least fairly debatable.
Simplifying the politics of Israelis and Palestinians into a distinct choice between civilization and savagery is also fairly debatable.

Troika report on Greece may come after U.S. vote

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - An EU-IMF report into whether Greece's debt is manageable looks set to be delayed until after November 6 because policymakers want to avoid any shock to the global economy before the U.S. election, EU officials and diplomats said.

The report by the 'troika' of Greece's foreign lenders -- the European Commission, European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund -- was expected during October, possibly before a meeting of euro zone finance ministers on October 8.

The study provides the basis for decisions on whether to disburse the next tranche of aid to Athens, which may otherwise run out of money to pay wages and pensions, default on its debt and perhaps be forced to leave the euro area.

Differences inside the troika about the precise extent of Greece's debt problems, combined with political pressure to hold off for another few weeks, look likely to mean a delay until mid-November. In the meantime, Greece will be kept afloat by issuing short-term treasury bills and its banks will get access to emergency funds from the Greek central bank.

"The Obama administration doesn't want anything on a macroeconomic scale that is going to rock the global economy before November 6," a senior EU official told Reuters, adding that previous troika reports had also slipped.

The European Commission's representative on the troika, Matthias Mors, denied that the report could be delayed, and an official at Greece's finance ministry said he had been assured that there would be no slippage.

A U.S. official said the United States had made clear to European officials that it wanted to avoid any "downside" economic surprises because of the fragile U.S. recovery, but denied that it had anything to do with the U.S. election.

Several sources in Germany described those conversations with their U.S. counterparts and said the message had been that the Americans didn't want surprises before the election.

Most polls show President Barack Obama leading his Republican rival Mitt Romney, but voters remain sensitive to any event that could damage U.S. economic growth and hurt jobs.

"It's likely the troika report will be pushed back beyond the U.S. election date," said a Berlin official who spoke on condition of anonymity. Asked if that was a special request from Washington, he replied: "They don't want any surprises."

The European Commission's spokesman on finance said on Friday the troika would take a week-long break from its work in Athens, the second time it has interrupted its mission since it began in late July, adding to expectations of a delay.

"The inspectors are expected to return to Athens in about a week," spokesman Simon O'Connor told reporters.

"As for a conclusion of the mission, I don't have any dates to share with you," he said, adding that it should be some time during October. "We can't say exactly when."

"THEY DON'T WANT ROMNEY"

Even if the mission does conclude its work on the ground in October, it will still take some time to write up its findings, the focus of which will be whether Greece will ever be able to get its debt down to a sustainable level.

That analysis will either show that Athens can reduce its debts below 120 percent of gross domestic product by 2020, as required by the IMF, or that the target will be missed.

If Greece is off-target by a wide margin, as many economists predict, financial markets will react negatively, concerned that another round of debt restructuring will be required to get government finances back on a stable footing.

A negative troika report could also revive pressure to force Greece out of the single currency area with potentially devastating knock-on consequences for other European countries and the global economy.

European leaders have the same interests as the U.S. president in not destabilizing markets -- their own economies have also been badly affected by the fallout from Greece, where the sovereign debt crisis began in January 2010.

But one source said EU leaders' motives went beyond macroeconomic stability. They also had political reasons to avoid rocking the boat before the U.S. election.

"As far as European leaders are concerned, they don't want Romney, so they're probably willing to do anything to help Obama's chances," said the source, an EU official involved in finding solutions to the debt crisis.

The problem for Obama is that if Europe's leaders are seen, implicitly or otherwise, to be working to bolster his reelection chances, it could provide ammunition for the Romney campaign.

European leaders have repeatedly been accused of acting too slowly and in a confused way to resolve the crisis, with a knock-on negative impact on the United States. If they are now seen to be allying with Obama, it could dent his popularity.
